The Lake of Vieilles-Forges has a story deeply rooted in the industrial heritage of the Ardennes. Originally a small pond along the Faux River near the hamlet of Vieilles-Forges, the area saw the rise of several forges during the 16th century. One of them, built by an Englishman named Whitaker, gave the site its name.
In 1927, a dam was built, later expanded in 1949, transforming the pond into a large reservoir used for hydroelectric power generation. Today, with its 12 kilometers of shoreline, the lake has become an iconic site for recreation, eco-tourism, and relaxation in the Ardennes.
